Bioavailability
There's a reason why every pharmaceutical company in the world is obsessed with the absorption of drugs, or bioavailability. The majority of hemp producers and processors put a ton of hard work into growing hemp, extracting oil, and creating a consumer packaged good (CPG), but they naively chose not to research what happens when humans consume hemp in edible form. Sorry if you're offended, but check your ego at the door. Figure 1 highlights the bioavailability of hemp delivery systems. Oil-soluble formulations are ineffective and very wasteful.
the People
Figure 1: Highlights bioavailability (%) of oil-soluble formulations (tincture, gummy, chocolate) vs. inhalation (vape) vs. water-soluble formulations (Le Herbe) vs. intravenous administration (IV). Disclaimer: IV is shown for educational purposes only; please don't use this delivery system or think we advocate for it.
Onset Effect
A major obstacle holding back the hemp industry from mainstream acceptance was a slow onset effect from consuming edibles. Figure 2 shows that oil-soluble formulations take 1-2 hours before you can feel the effect after oral consumption and last up to 4-6 hours. Le Herbe solved this problem with a hemp delivery system called a nanoemulsion in 2015. Consumers now have 5-10 minute onset effects thanks to The Art and Science of Cannabis Beverages. Le Herbe's water-soluble cannabinoids start to dissipate within an hour, just like alcohol. No award or recognition necessary.
vs
Long-Lasting
Figure 2: Comparison of hemp metabolites in the blood as a function of time, water-soluble formulations (fast-acting) vs. oil-soluble formulations (long-lasting). Le Herbe's water-soluble formulations come on quick and start to dissipate within an hour, just like alcohol. We can combine fast-acting and long-lasting for a wide variety of custom effects.
Le Herbe has spent 9 years mastering hemp pharmacokinetics (how humans affect cannabinoids) and continues to research hemp pharmacodynamics (how cannabinoids affect humans) in order to move our industry forward. We need to care more about our customers and formulations and less about fancy packaging.
